颶風桑迪賑災 兩場音樂會義演 11 月 10 及 11 日(週六、日)
為了呼籲及響應颶風桑迪賑災，台灣慈善公益團體(Taiwan Charity)與皇后區基督教宣道會 Queens Christian Alliance Church(QCAC) 共同主辦兩場賑災音樂會義演，第一場音樂會將於 2012 年 11 月 10 日(週六)晚上 7 點，在皇后區基督教宣道會 Queens Christian Alliance Church (QCAC)舉行，地址是 135-20 35th Avenue, Flushing, NY 11354。第二場則將於 2012 年 11 月 11 日(週日) 下午 3 點，在紐約華僑文教中心舉行，中心地址： 133-32 41st Road, Flushing, NY 11355。
台灣慈善公益團體(Taiwan Charity)自 2009 年以來，每年都在天災發生時，召集優秀的華裔及其他族裔的音樂家，舉辦慈善音樂會以募款賑災並撫慰人心。這次颶風嚴重襲擊美東地區，Taiwan Charity 與 QCAC 也不落人後，誠摯邀請大紐約區的朋友們，發揮人溺己溺的精神，把愛傳送給颶風桑迪的災民們。希望更多的華人知道此消息，一起參與活動或予以匯款捐助災民。
義演音樂會將邀請各種類型的音樂藝術表演者一同參與，有來自茱莉亞音樂學院、紐約大學及哥倫比亞大學等名校的音樂家們，以各種樂器，共同聯合演出，表演方式包括：室內樂、獨奏、獨唱、樂團等，大家以實際行動及熱誠的心，援助颶風桑迪災民的需要，敬請攜伴前來，共襄盛舉!
主辦單位台灣慈善公益團體 (Taiwan Charity) 與皇后區基督教宣道會 (QCAC), 特別感謝Ace-Lon LLC，Association of Taiwanese Alumni in Greater New York (ATANY)及 Asian Business Center…等贊助單位，提供場地的紐約華僑文教中心, 所有熱情參與幫助的朋友以及熱心報導的媒體單位。災區的重建十分艱巨，費時費力，主辦單位期望颶風桑迪的災民們能夠儘早得到援助。

Artistic Director
Flutist Tina Jao, a native Taiwanese, is an active soloist, chamber musician and concert coordinator who studied under the tutelage of Juilliard’s Carol Wincenc and Jeffrey Khaner. She has been critically acclaimed on stages for her passion to go all dreamy moments in music and dance upon it with charismatic stage presence. At the age of 18, she was invited by the Elfland Modeling Company to perform at Annually Jewelry Runway Show in Grand Hyatt Hotel. Ms. Jao had also performed 21 other successful concerts within a year and half in various New York City venues, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, United Nations, Yamaha Artist Salon, CCSU Polish Awards and etc. After the enthusiastic success of her performing, Ms. Jao had her CD recordings, along with the copy right of Michael A. Peszke, M.D. Currently, Ms. Jao is a full-time auditor and also serves as a board member of ATANY.
Artist Biography
The Stand Up For Peace Project, Dr. Judy Kuriansky and Russell Daisey, perform their world music internationally, appearing in Global Harmony Concerts in Tokyo, Yokohama, Hiroshima and Nagasaki for the last five years. They were honored to perform their signature song, "Towers of Light" for the Dalai Lama, Reverend Desmond Tutu and Betty Williams at the 2006 Hiroshima International Peace Summit. They have given concerts at The United Nations (NY and Mexico City), Riverside Church, Columbia University, The Annual 9/11 Floating Lanterns Ceremonies and in a series of Hibaku "Survivor" Piano concerts including the Tillman Chapel of the Church Center of the UN in September, 2010. Their music has been heard on NPR and WOR radio as well as NHK and FNN TV, Japan. They are joined tonight by Rev. TK Nakagaki, and Ikuma Isaac. Dr. Chen, one of the organizers of this event, has performed with the Stand Up Project since 2007.
范詠喨 ( Yo-yo Fann), violinist, was born in Taiwan within a musical family. He is finishing his second year as a master of music degree candidate, studying under Masao Kawasaki. This spring, 2011, Yo-yo was invited to play at Texas State University as soloist with members of Juilliard School under the director, Wayne Oquin. An advocate of new music, Yo-yo participates regularly in the New Juilliard Ensemble and has performed with the group as concertmaster. In the summer of 2010, he performed Brahms Violin Concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra in Peru under Pablo Sabat Mindreau. Yo-yo began studying violin at age 5 and a half. In 1999 Yo-yo moved to New York, where he studied at Pre-College Divisions of Manhattan School of Music and Juilliard. In 2005, Yo-yo moved to Chicago and studied at DePaul University, where he received his bachelor’s degree. Yo-yo has won a number of competitions and awards, including the Taiwan National Youth Competition (4th Prize) and “Best Sonata” at the International Violin Competition for Violin at Kulturstiftung Hohanlohe in Germany. Recent festivals include Aspen Music Festival and Music Master Course in Japan. His teachers have included Keng-Yuen Tseng, Aaron Rosand, Stefan Milenkovitch, Ilya Kaler. Yo-yo was a recipient of Drs. & Kassie Biros Neuman Scholarship and Lilly Z. Foldes Scholarship at Juilliard.
Soprano Hsuan Ma began piano studies at the age of four. At age twelve she began her voice studies. Ms. Ma has earned a B.F.A in Music Performance and Music Education at National Taiwan Normal University. She received the Mater of Music at New York University. She has participated in several international competitions and has performed in recital and as soloist throughout the United States, Asia and Europe. Ms. Ma is active in the New York musical scene performing with various groups. Recently, she performed as vocal soloist in the play Kid Shamrock at Atlantic Theater. She has worked with Joel Diamond and a Sundance winner director Jimmy Smallhorne. Ms. Ma has been invited to perform a series of concerts of Chinese art song at the China Institute in New York in December 2011. In addition to performing, Ms. Ma is currently a voice/piano instructor and vocal coach.
Yiling Ting ,pianist, was born into a music family on October 9th 1979 in Shanghai. His mother started him on piano at the age of 3. At age of 7 he enrolled in Shanghai Music Elementary of music affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music. After winning 2 first place in Shanghai between the age of 10 and 11, he went to Shanghai Music Middle of in 92. During the 6 years there he won 2nd prize in China National piano competition in 92, 4th prize in Stravinsky international piano competition in champaign-urbana, IL in 95, first prize in Prokofiev International Piano Competition in Moscow in 96. Upon graduation in 98, Yiling was accepted to Oberlin College with full-scholarship to study with Prof. Sedmara Rutstein and was awarded Peter Serkin prize during his senior year. In 2003. Yiling went to Manhattan School of Music to pursue Master's degree under Prof. Arkady Aronov with full-scholarship. Currently Yiling is a free-lancing musician in New York area and has been collaborating music with musicians all over the tri-state area and throughout the country.
Cindy (Hui Tzu) Lin is currently a student under Baruch College, majoring in Management of Musical Enterprises. She learned piano and guitar by herself, and started to take piano lesson 2 years afterward. All of Cindy's musical inspiration comes from God, and she is grateful to have all the musical blessings and gifts that she can use in different places. She has been a pianist, guitarist, and vocalist in church since high school, and subsequently started composing.
Joe Yang, 24 years old. He was Born in Taiwan. He has associate's degree in Music Production and currently is a student at the New York City College of Technology Majoring in Entertainment Technology, also known as Nukeway’s Bass Player. He had done editing and mixing music with the passion of piano and drum.
Charles Chen graduated from hunter college, and is currently working at a law firm. He has a deep passion for God and music. Charles was born and raised in New York. At the age of 12, he began to learn the piano, but his passion for music began when he picked up the guitar and lead worship at church at the age of 17. By the 4th year of college, he began to learn the drums from people at his Christian fellowship. Guitar and drums became his forte since then.
William (Chin Sheng) Hsieh, a musician, composer, audio post-production engineer for film and video and filmmaker. He is currently a student in New York City College of Technology studying Entertainment Technology. William is a inspired artist that is interested in film and music. He have been playing guitar since he was 16 and have been teaching guitar in the last 3 years. He wrote most of the music for his band "Nukeway" and he is also the lead vocalist and guitarist for his band. He is also a filmmaker that is focusing on audio post-production and film music composing.
Taiwanese-American violinist Kevin Shue, hailed by Anthony Tommassini of the New York Times as “promising violinist with rich, full sound, true musical sensitivity and considerable techniques.” Mr. Shue has presented performed as soloist at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to sold-out success. Additional performances at various venues around the tri-state area including the United Nations, Avery Fisher Hall, the Cathedral Church of Saint-John the Divine to name a few. He received his BM at SUNY Stony Brook under renowned violinists Pamela Frank and Ani Kavafian, MM from Mannes College of Music under Hiroko Yajima. In June of 2008, Mr. Shue performed for the President of Philippines under the invitation of the United Nations. Moreover, he has been invited to perform very frequently for National functions of Taiwan around the tri-state area. Currently, Mr. Shue serves as the Director of Education and Community Engagement of the newly launched New Asia Chamber Music Society, as well as serving on the faculty of the Children’s Orchestra Society and the Great Neck Conservatory of Music.
Lan-In Winnie Yang has enjoyed successes not only as a pianist, but also as a composer. Her performance activities have taken her through Asia, and the United States, where she has had the opportunity to successfully premier her own compositions. She has been highly awarded and honored in both the fields of performance and composition in her native land of Taiwan, as well as across the United States and abroad. Her most recent composition, “Sonata for Violin and Piano”, is written at the request of the renowned violinist, Philip Setzer, founding member of the Emerson String Quartet, and will be premiered by Philip Setzer and pianist, Gilbert Kalish. Currently, she is writing a piano concerto, commissioned by Egret Cultural and Educational Foundation and will be premiered by the Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra.
“The Asterplace” is a New Generation Asian Rock Band based in NYC, U.S., who focuses Asian Community in US... and they play gig worldwide like US, Japan and China. Kota Tsukimoto (Composer, Singer, Guitarist), Steven Lin (Guitarist), Luo Qinyun (Bassist), Ji Hoon Moon (Pianist), Kota Mori (Drummer and purcassionist). “The Asterplace” means keep rocking and writing songs ever after like flower blossoming every year. All songs and lyrics are written by Kota Tsukimoto. They represent not only his sensitivity and philosophy, also “Feels people have lived trough.” They have interesting band history. The band was established summer 2005 in Shanghai China by Kota Tsukimoto which named ‘Everbreed.’ The band played many local promotion gigs and rock festivals, and they became a one of famous band in Shanghai Indies's rock seen as a pioneer of melodic punk rock. In 2009, decided to move to NYC try to find their own music. And now, in the U.S., they participate in many music events. The band is getting grows up their music style and keep playing rock'n roll.
Sean Lengor, born and raised in Russia. Stepped on stage at the age 15. Went through a variety of projects as a backup vocalist, dancer, musician and actor. In the US since 2004. Used to play bit part in one movie and one pilot and went a theatrical stage as an actor in two plays of Black Broadway Ujamaa Theater. Performing around the city with an acoustic guitar and singing songs.
JC Fann studied formal vocal training with Professor Yuan while he was a junior high school student. He further studied opera performing with National Taiwan Normal University baritone Professor Chen. Mr. Fann established, trained, and conducted many choruses such as I-Lan Industrial & Agricultural Vocational High School Choir, DEC Taiwan Plant Choir, Taipei Gu-Ting Community Choir, and Arts Children Choir. In 2000, Mr. Fann was appointed as a "Xing-Yuan-Xing Buddhism Chorus" conductor in New York. He received doctoral degree at the Lubin Business School of PACE University in 2009, majoring in Business Administration and International Business Management.
Pianist Gretta Shiow-Jen You was born in Taipei, Taiwan. She earned her bachelor's degree in piano from National Taiwan Normal University. She received her master's degree in music education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has been performing as a piano accompanist and music director in the U.S., Taiwan and Peru.

Artist Biography
Violinists Katie Hyun and David Southorn, violist, Wei-Yang Andy Lin, and cellist, Mihai Marica, having played chamber music in many different configurations and venues, first joined together for a performance at Sprague Hall at the Yale School of Music in February, 2009. The overwhelmingly positive audience reception at this concert was the inspiration behind their mutual desire to pursue a career as the Amphion String Quartet. Hailed for their “gripping intensity” and “suspenseful and virtuoso playing” by the San Francisco Classical Voice , the Amphion String Quartet was awarded First Prize in the Piano and Strings category as well as the Audience Choice Award at the 2010 Plowman Chamber Music Competition held in Columbia, Missouri. That same year, they received the 1st Prize at the Hugo Kauder String Quartet Competition in New Haven, CT. Recently they have made appearances at the Beinecke Library at Yale University, the WMP Strad for Lunch Series in New York, as well as Yale University’s Sprague Hall.
Vivian Fang Liu was born to be a musician," says Felix W. Ortiz, member of Assembly. Ms. Liu holds her Master's degree in classical piano performance at New York University. She has won many prizes at piano and voice competitions in New York since 2002. Ms. Liu performed actively in tri-state region, venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Hammerstein Hall, Steinway Hall, Super Star Theatre, Hilton Grand Theatre and more recently was invited to perform at the Gracie Mansion of Mayor Bloomberg for the NYCHA celebration. Ms. Liu was a judge of 2010 Global Chinese Youth Musical Instrument Competition and she is an adjudicator of NYSSMA festival.

A native of Yokohama, Japan, Leo Soeda studied cello at the Manhattan School of Music with Nathaniel Rosen. He has performed in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fischer Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, Joe’s Pub, and the United Nations, and has also performed on late night TV shows, such as NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman. He also performed as the lead cellist of a rock band, New Radio, during 2003-05, and appeared in the Iceland Airwaves Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland in 2005. In June, 2006, he made an appearance on NBC’s Today Show, where he performed in his own composition for string trio.
Yukari Roja is a Japanese singer/composer/guitarist. She has toured Japan, USA, and Europe for over ten years. Her music is very unique. She writes and sings in Japanese with Brazilian, Jazz and Japanese Folk mixed sound. Yukari is also one of the founders of Origami Project for JAPAN.

Virginia Chang Chien, oboist, is known as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestra performer. She received Master of Music Degree from Queens College of City University of New York. She has served as a principal and co-principal including New York Symphony Orchestra, Ureuk Symphony Orchestra, Brooklyn College Orchestra, Graduate Center Ensemble, Queens College Orchestra and Queens College Chamber Orchestra and Nova Philharmonic Orchestra. Her appearance is in Alice Tully Hall Of Lincoln Center, Merkin Concert Hall, Bohemian National Hall , Elebash Recital Hall, Whitehead Hall and LeFrak Concert Hall. She gave her debut oboe concerto in 2008 for Queens College Chamber Orchestra in Lefrak Concert Hall. She was invited to perform oboe concerto as special guest soloist in Brazil, 2010. Most recently, She performed as principal oboe in Nova Philharmonic for Japan relief concert in April. In June, she has received full scholarship of Domaine Forget Music Festival and give concert in Quebec. In New York Metropolitan area, she currently serves as principal oboe in Nova Philharmonic Orchestra and a faculty of East-West Music School.
Ms. Mami Okada, born in Nara, Japan, started her violin studies at the age of seven. She graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and is currently studying with Prof. Daniel Phillips of the Orion Quartet in New York City. She received the third prize at the violin section of Osaka Music Competition in 2002 and third prize at Etou Toshiya Violin Competition in 2004. Ms. Okada has performed in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong with the Asian Youth Orchestra in 2006 and 2008. As a fine orchestra and chamber music player and a soloist, she has appeared in important concert halls in Japan and Czech Republic, as well as Merkin Hall and Tenri Cultural Institute in New York City.
Masayuki Maki is a multiple-keyboardist on various classical instruments with extensive lecturing and performing experiences in America and Asia. He formally worked as Associate Instructor of harpsichord performance and keyboard accompaniment at Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, and now he is appointed as Adjunct Instructor at Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, CUNY, teaching piano, harpsichord, organ, fortepiano and chamber music. He often appears at the world most important concert venues, such as Carnegie Hall, the Forbidden City Concert Hall (China), and Suntory Hall (Japan). He has been an artist of Poly Theatre Group and artist-in-residence at Gulangyu Music Festival (2008 and 2010-2011). His international activities has been sponsored by Asahi Shinbun Foundation and well recognized by such media as China Radio International, Asahi Newspaper, Mainchi Newspaper and Early Music America.
范詠喨 ( Yo-yo Fann), violinist, was born in Taiwan within a musical family. He is finishing his second year as a master of music degree candidate, studying under Masao Kawasaki. This spring, 2011, Yo-yo was invited to play at Texas State University as soloist with members of Juilliard School under the director, Wayne Oquin. An advocate of new music, Yo-yo participates regularly in the New Juilliard Ensemble and has performed with the group as concertmaster. In the summer of 2010, he performed Brahms Violin Concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra in Peru under Pablo Sabat Mindreau. Yo-yo began studying violin at age 5 and a half. In 1999 Yo-yo moved to New York, where he studied at Pre-College Divisions of Manhattan School of Music and Juilliard. In 2005, Yo-yo moved to Chicago and studied at DePaul University, where he received his bachelor’s degree. Flutist Tina Jao, a native Taiwanese, is an active soloist, chamber musician and concert coordinator who studied under the tutelage of Juilliard’s Carol Wincenc and Jeffrey Khaner. She has been critically acclaimed on stages for her passion to go all dreamy moments in music and dance upon it with charismatic stage presence. At the age of 18, she was invited by the Elfland Modeling Company to perform at Annually Jewelry Runway Show in Grand Hyatt Hotel. Ms. Jao had also performed 21 other successful concerts within a year and half in various New York City venues, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, United Nations, Yamaha Artist Salon, CCSU Polish Awards and etc. After the enthusiastic success of her performing, Ms. Jao had her CD recordings, along with the copy right of Michael A. Peszke, M.D. Currently, Ms. Jao is a full-time auditor and also serves as a board member of ATANY.
Artist Biography
Violinists Katie Hyun and David Southorn, violist, Wei-Yang Andy Lin, and cellist, Mihai Marica, having played chamber music in many different configurations and venues, first joined together for a performance at Sprague Hall at the Yale School of Music in February, 2009. The overwhelmingly positive audience reception at this concert was the inspiration behind their mutual desire to pursue a career as the Amphion String Quartet. Hailed for their “gripping intensity” and “suspenseful and virtuoso playing” by the San Francisco Classical Voice , the Amphion String Quartet was awarded First Prize in the Piano and Strings category as well as the Audience Choice Award at the 2010 Plowman Chamber Music Competition held in Columbia, Missouri. That same year, they received the 1st Prize at the Hugo Kauder String Quartet Competition in New Haven, CT. Recently they have made appearances at the Beinecke Library at Yale University, the WMP Strad for Lunch Series in New York, as well as Yale University’s Sprague Hall.
Vivian Fang Liu was born to be a musician," says Felix W. Ortiz, member of Assembly. Ms. Liu holds her Master's degree in classical piano performance at New York University. She has won many prizes at piano and voice competitions in New York since 2002. Ms. Liu performed actively in tri-state region, venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Hammerstein Hall, Steinway Hall, Super Star Theatre, Hilton Grand Theatre and more recently was invited to perform at the Gracie Mansion of Mayor Bloomberg for the NYCHA celebration. Ms. Liu was a judge of 2010 Global Chinese Youth Musical Instrument Competition and she is an adjudicator of NYSSMA festival.
The Stand Up For Peace Project, Dr. Judy Kuriansky and Russell Daisey, perform their world music internationally, appearing in Global Harmony Concerts in Tokyo, Yokohama, Hiroshima and Nagasaki for the last five years. They were honored to perform their signature song, "Towers of Light" for the Dalai Lama, Reverend Desmond Tutu and Betty Williams at the 2006 Hiroshima International Peace Summit. They have given concerts at The United Nations (NY and Mexico City), Riverside Church, Columbia University, The Annual 9/11 Floating Lanterns Ceremonies and in a series of Hibaku "Survivor" Piano concerts including the Tillman Chapel of the Church Center of the UN in September, 2010. Their music has been heard on NPR and WOR radio as well as NHK and FNN TV, Japan. They are joined tonight by Rev. TK Nakagaki, and Ikuma Isaac. Dr. Chen, one of the organizers of this event, has performed with the Stand Up Project since 2007.
A native of Yokohama, Japan, Leo Soeda studied cello at the Manhattan School of Music with Nathaniel Rosen. He has performed in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fischer Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, Joe’s Pub, and the United Nations, and has also performed on late night TV shows, such as NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman. He also performed as the lead cellist of a rock band, New Radio, during 2003-05, and appeared in the Iceland Airwaves Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland in 2005. In June, 2006, he made an appearance on NBC’s Today Show, where he performed in his own composition for string trio.
Yukari Roja is a Japanese singer/composer/guitarist. She has toured Japan, USA, and Europe for over ten years. Her music is very unique. She writes and sings in Japanese with Brazilian, Jazz and Japanese Folk mixed sound. Yukari is also one of the founders of Origami Project for JAPAN.
Soprano Hsuan Ma began piano studies at the age of four. At age twelve she began her voice studies. Ms. Ma has earned a B.F.A in Music Performance and Music Education at National Taiwan Normal University. She received the Mater of Music at New York University. She has participated in several international competitions and has performed in recital and as soloist throughout the United States, Asia and Europe. Ms. Ma is active in the New York musical scene performing with various groups. Recently, she performed as vocal soloist in the play Kid Shamrock at Atlantic Theater. She has worked with Joel Diamond and a Sundance winner director Jimmy Smallhorne. Ms. Ma has been invited to perform a series of concerts of Chinese art song at the China Institute in New York in December 2011. In addition to performing, Ms. Ma is currently a voice/piano instructor and vocal coach.
Yiling Ting ,pianist, was born into a music family on October 9th 1979 in Shanghai. His mother started him on piano at the age of 3. At age of 7 he enrolled in Shanghai Music Elementary of music affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music. After winning 2 first place in Shanghai between the age of 10 and 11, he went to Shanghai Music Middle of in 92. During the 6 years there he won 2nd prize in China National piano competition in 92, 4th prize in Stravinsky international piano competition in champaign-urbana, IL in 95, first prize in Prokofiev International Piano Competition in Moscow in 96. Upon graduation in 98, Yiling was accepted to Oberlin College with full-scholarship to study with Prof. Sedmara Rutstein and was awarded Peter Serkin prize during his senior year. In 2003. Yiling went to Manhattan School of Music to pursue Master's degree under Prof. Arkady Aronov with full-scholarship. Currently Yiling is a free-lancing musician in New York area and has been collaborating music with musicians all over the tri-state area and throughout the country.
Virginia Chang Chien, oboist, is known as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestra performer. She received Master of Music Degree from Queens College of City University of New York. She has served as a principal and co-principal including New York Symphony Orchestra, Ureuk Symphony Orchestra, Brooklyn College Orchestra, Graduate Center Ensemble, Queens College Orchestra and Queens College Chamber Orchestra and Nova Philharmonic Orchestra. Her appearance is in Alice Tully Hall Of Lincoln Center, Merkin Concert Hall, Bohemian National Hall , Elebash Recital Hall, Whitehead Hall and LeFrak Concert Hall. Many Taiwanese in New York would like to help Haiti. We therefore hold two concerts on Feb 26th 12pm-3pm, and 6pm-8pm, to raise the awareness of the need of continuing helping Haiti.
The program includes 6-7 performers who will professionally play piano, violin, and other instruments to express the need of helping with Haiti's Earthquake Relief.
FREE Admission to both concerts! (However, if you wish to donate, the Suggested Donation is $10. All money collected will be donated to BLIA (Buddha's Light International Association) for Haiti Earthquake Relief.)
